WHAT'S IN YOUR GO KIT?
CERT GO KIT
Everyone should already have an emergency preparedness kit--at home, in the car, at work, and at school.
CERT team members, however, need to keep a CERT go kit loaded and ready to go. These kits are not only important when responding to emergencies, but also when taking additional training classes, since there is usually a hands-on, get-down-and-dirty element to advanced training. What should your CERT go kit contain?
At the very least, you should keep a knapsack or duffle packed with:
At least one pair of broken in leather gloves that comfortably fit your hands
Several sets of disposable gloves (latex, vinyl, or nitrile)
Disposable N-95 filter masks, kept clean in zipped bags
At least one flashlight with extra batteries
Marking chalk or pens
Sturdy boots (with soles that won't melt if you have to stamp out fires)
Personal first aid kit
Bands or clips to restrain hair
Along with needed personal medications
2 Bottles of Water (One for drinking & one for flushing wounds)
An expanded CERT go kit may include personal grooming items, like toothpaste and toothbrush, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, shampoo, and a change of clothes; meal bars; canned or bottled water; additional gloves, masks, and first aid supplies; writing materials; and forms.
